Application: Rebuilding Steam Turbines

While rebuilding steam turbines it is common to replace components and use existing parts. This presents the challenge of matching new assemblies to the existing installation which has likely been in place for many years. The accuracy of our measurement equipment can be used to map inlet locations on the outer cylinder. This information can then be used to check deviations from the original print and ultimately check any interference with the new inner cylinder prior to installation. This information can also be used to determine how much cutting or machining is necessary to match the existing outer cylinder to the inner cylinder. Following any modifications, the measurement system can verify and document the changes to allow for accurate record keeping of the changes made.

Application: Refinery Retrofits

The complexity and age of piping at many refineries makes retrofitting new technology to existing structures very difficult and expensive. Most retrofits involve custom manufacturing at the jobsite as a “build as you go process”. With the use of new technology called High Definition Surveying (HDS) the existing structure can be measured and the data brought into a CAD environment where the new structure can be visualized and measurements made. The measurements can be given to the manufacturer for custom made parts. These parts can be made off site and delivered to the refinery for installation.
